MLB Predictions 2017: Projected Standings, Playoff Results And World Series Champion

Will the Chicago Cubs become the first team since the 88-90 Yankees to go back to back?

Welcome to Sports 4 Profit! Sports 4 Profit is a company designed to help you as a sports fan to monetize your passion for sports! I am Roosevelt Cooper, the founder and President of this company. Many years ago I started an annual blog post where I would share my predictions for NBA, NFL and MLB. Now that I have this new company, my annual predictions posts will be on this website going forward.

Before I begin with the predictions, I want to talk about the ways that you can profit from sports if you have the ability to predict which teams are going to be good and which teams are going to be bad this season.

The first and most obvious way that you can profit is by gambling. The casinos and betting establishments offer what are called "Future" bets that you can make. If you believe you are confident in knowing who is going to win you can bet a future on it. The casinos and betting websites offer baseball futures on the following categories:
  • World Series Champion
  • National League Champion
  • American League Champion
  • NL East, NL Central, NL West, AL East, AL Central, AL West Division Champions
  • Over/Under odds on number of regular season wins for each team
The second way that you can profit from being able to predict teams is by playing fantasy sports. By knowing which teams are going to be good, that will also help you in knowing which players are going to be good for fantasy purposes.

The third way that you can profit from being able to predict teams is by starting your own blog, podcast or video show. If you can go on record and correctly predict which teams are going to do well, sports fans are going to pay attention to what you have to say. This will help you build your following and thus help you build a profitable blog, podcast or video show.

With that, let's get to the predictions!!!

2017 MLB Regular Season Predictions

Last year I predicted that the Chicago Cubs would win the World Series. I was correct! Here is how I see the regular season playing out this year!

American League East

1. Boston Red Sox (97-65)
2. Toronto Blue Jays (86-76)
3. New York Yankees (83-79)
4. Baltimore Orioles (80-82)
5. Tampa Bay Rays (75-87)

The Red Sox are the cream of the division. The Blue Jays will miss Encarnacion but they can still hit. The Yankees are rebuilding but the "baby bombers" are going to be fun to watch. The Orioles still have some powerful bats, but I'm very concerned about their starting rotation. The Rays will be better than some people believe, but definitely a step down from the rest of the division.

American League Central

1. Cleveland Indians (96-66)
2. Detroit Tigers (81-81)
3. Kansas City Royals (75-87)
4. Minnesota Twins (71-91)
5. Chicago White Sox (65-97)

The Indians are a great team that has gotten even better adding Encarnacion and having Miller for a full season. The Tigers have two great aces and a stacked offense, but not much of anything else. I actually think the Royals are better than a 75 win team but if they cannot win, they will make trades at the trade deadline and rebuild. The Twins will be better than last year but still not that good. The White Sox are rebuilding and will not be any good at all this year.

American League West

1. Houston Astros (90-72)
2. Seattle Mariners (87-75)
3. Texas Rangers (85-77)
4. Los Angeles Angels (78-84)
5. Oakland Athletics (70-92)

The Astros have upgraded their hitting with an already talented core. With Dyson and Segura at the 1 and 2, the Mariners are going to be very dangerous. The Rangers are good but I am concerned that they didn't do enough in the offseason to keep up with the rest of the division. The Angels added some nice pieces but not enough to make them contenders. The Athletics just don't have enough to compete this season.

National League East

1. New York Mets (92-70)
2. Washington Nationals (91-71)
3. Miami Marlins (76-86)
4. Atlanta Braves (73-89)
5. Philadelphia Phillies (71-91)

The Mets have some injury concerns in the rotation but if they can be healthy they can beat anybody. The Nationals have a talented rotation and a great offense. They still need more help in relief though. The Marlins look decent but as always Stanton's health is the big question mark. The Braves and the Phillies are in all out rebuilding mode, with a best case scenario of going .500.

National League Central

1. Chicago Cubs (100-62)
2. St. Louis Cardinals (86-76)
3. Pittsburgh Pirates (80-82)
4. Cincinnati Reds (68-94)
5. Milwaukee Brewers (65-97)

The defending champions still have the most talented team on paper despite losing Dexter Fowler. The Cardinals are always dangerous and is definitely the number one team that I am concerned that I may not be giving them enough credit. I thought the Pirates were going to be pretty good last year and they weren't that good so my expectations are a lot lower this year. The Reds have a decent starting rotation but that's about it. The Brewers won't be good at all this year but they have arguably the best farm system in the National League so their future is bright.

National League West

1. Los Angeles Dodgers (94-68)
2. San Francisco Giants (87-75)
3. Colorado Rockies (77-85)
4. Arizona Diamondbacks (76-86)
5. San Diego Padres (64-98)

You can make a legitimate argument for either the Dodgers or the Giants. However, I like the Dodgers a little bit more as I think they have a more talented and deeper rotation. The Giants have upgraded their bullpen though in a MAJOR way bringing on Mark Melancon. The Rockies can still hit of course. The question is whether their pitching is good enough to help them make the next step. The Diamondbacks aren't good enough to compete, but they do have some nice pieces. The Padres are going to be trash this year. 64 wins could even be generous as this team is certainly capable of losing more than 100 games this year.

American League Division Winners - Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros
American League Wildcard Qualifiers - Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays

National League Division Winners - New York Mets, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers
National League Wildcard Qualifiers - Washington Nationals, San Francisco Giants

2017 MLB Playoff Predictions

AL Wildcard - Toronto Blue Jays defeat Seattle Mariners
NL Wildcard - San Francisco Giants defeat Washington Nationals

AL Division Series - Boston Red Sox defeat Toronto Blue Jays (3-0)
AL Division Series - Cleveland Indians defeat Houston Astros (3-0)
NL Division Series - Chicago Cubs defeat San Francisco Giants (3-1)
NL Division Series - New York Mets defeat Los Angeles Dodgers (3-2)

AL Championship Series - Boston Red Sox defeat Cleveland Indians (4-2)
NL Championship Series - New York Mets defeat Chicago Cubs (4-3)

World Series - New York Mets defeat Boston Red Sox (4-3)

For those of you who know me you are probably completely shocked by this prediction. For you know that my two LEAST favorite teams are the Boston Red Sox (My least favorite team) and the New York Mets (My 2nd least favorite team). However, I have to take my fan cap off for a second and put on my baseball cap. My baseball cap is saying that the Mets are going to win it all this season.

The Boston Red Sox are absolutely loaded and they got even better now that they were able to sign Chris Sale. There's really only two concerns that you can have with this team. Losing "Big Papi" at the heart of the order is a concern. The other concern is the bullpen outside of Thornberg in the 8th and Kimbrel in the 9th. Other than the Indians who are also VERY loaded as well, I really don't see any team in the American League that is going to stop this team. The Indians are certainly capable of beating the Red Sox. However, I like the Red Sox over them to make it to the World Series this year.

The big issue with the Mets is the health of their pitching staff. We got a taste of how good this team could be in 2015 when they swept the Cubs to make it to the World Series. However, the reason why this team is a big question mark is because you have Matt Harvey, Jacob DeGrom, Steven Matz and Zack Wheeler all coming off surgery. DESPITE all of this, this team still won 87 games and qualified for the wild card. They were able to keep Cespedes and Neil Walker keeping their lineup good enough to score enough runs to win behind that powerful rotation.

While I believe the Cubs are a much better team, I absolutely like the Mets chances in a 7 game series with arguably the most gifted rotation in the major leagues. It's not like beating the Cubs is impossible. The Mets swept them just 2 years ago. If injuries keep the Mets from preforming to their full potential, I love the Cubs chances of getting back to the World Series. However, if the Cubs have to go through a healthy Mets rotation, look for the Mets to pull off the upset and win it all this season.

So that's my picks this season! Comment below and let me know if you agree or disagree!
